We hope you enjoy this feature!
Ask Mouse? -by Dan Warner djwandro (at) roadrunner.com
Herb says, “Mouse when you headed to LP?”
“Well Herb, it’s summer when it should be winter! I hear
they are still water skiing on Lake Placid at Turkey Day!”
Herb just smiled. Not good!!
And so it continues even now as the weather still is not
the greatest. And it seems as it not only here in the East
but all over the world. It's been tough sledding as there is
no real snow, only man made, and that has been a struggle as the temps
have been not there to make snow either. Many events have been cancelled
all over and things are not looking good on the horizon.
“Why does this matter?” you might ask. Well, not many places have good
snowmaking set ups and if you are at an alpine area the trails will get
done before the jumps or XC courses. Those sites that are lucky enough to
have snowmaking have had a hard time getting going and keeping hills up
and running.
In LP we are snowing the 90 tower for the 4th time and it's just
Jan 3rd. If our smaller hills around the East are not snowed skiers will
turn to other forms of sport so it is critcal to get jumps ready. The ski
sales biss also depends sites being open so skis can get sold. This will
have a domino effect if things do not change soon.
What can we do? Find out how you can help. Maybe offer to tend guns for a
night. Or if you can help with hill prep do that. Any way you can help
keeps our positive momentum going. In other words get involved!!
